Carnival Destiny to Key West and Cozumel Lately?

We are trying to book our first cruise, and we found a nice deal on the Destiny.
We read reviews that were not very positive but most of them were dated.

Is there anybody who went on this ship lately?
Please let us know before we strike.

Thanks a lot everyone.

Answer :
I can't comment specifically on Destiny, but I have sailed Carnival's older ships several times, some older than Destiny. They don't get the best reviews because they don't have the latest and greatest features found on new ships. No flowriders, no rock climbing walls, etc. That said, I think they are a perfect choice for a first cruise. They are low cost, and they have many features that are common to all cruise ships.

Carnival is on the value end of the cruise line spectrum, but we have always had fun on Carnival, had nice rooms, and received great service. I wouldn't hesitate to go Carnival for the first time, especially if the price is good. Later, once you've had more experience cruising, upgrade to a more expensive cruise if you want. By then you'll be able to make an informed decision, and decide if it's worth the extra money. Some people move to other lines and some stay with Carnival. They really are an excellent value and you'll have a great time.

Key West and Cozumel are both decent ports, in my opinion. Lots of cruises go to Cozumel, but it's not a bad choice, especially for first time cruisers.

If you have specific questions I did not answer, feel free to message me.

Good luck!

Answer :
The Destiny is one of Carnival's older ships, although I think it has been "refurbished" fairly recently. Don't know how you chose that ship/itinerary, but if you've never cruised before and haven't done any research about cruising, I suggest you check your library or bookstore for a book on cruising. It will give you an overview of the different cruise lines, ships and itineraries. There are a lot of variables from which you will need to choose before you can see a travel agent to book your cruise.

Also don't know where you've checked for reviews, but a great place to try is CruiseCritic.com. Click on "Reviews" to read a review from a pro and also check the "Member Reviews" for any ship/itinerary you're interested in. Click on "Cruise Styles" at the top of the page for info about the demographic that the different lines and ships appeal to. Click on "Boards" to find info about anything and everything about cruising from experienced cruisers.

I was on Carnival Imagination last Oct. it had that same intinerary and was recently refurbished like the Destiny was. It was a GREAT time and we are now hooked on cruising. Don't let all the negative reviews scare you. Go and have fun!!
